Stated Purpose
"to provide food, clothing, medical supplies, educational materials and other necessities for those without life's essentials."
Feed the Children (FEED) has several domestic programs: food and personal essentials, disaster response, and educational and community support, as well as international programs: child-focused community development and residential care. In the United States, FEED supplements basic needs of children and families with food and other necessities. The organization reports that it partners with over 1,200 local agencies, including food pantries, churches, and soup kitchens, distributing food and other essentials to help families nationwide. The organization responds in times of disaster due to its dedicated fleet of semi-tractor trailers, and it works with its network of agency partners to provide emergency essentials to victims of natural and man-made disasters, including supplies of non-perishable food items, basic essentials (hygiene and toiletries items), water, cleaning supplies, books and school supplies. FEED delivers backpacks filled with school supplies, age appropriate books and personal hygiene items, to homeless students enrolled in public schools. Children across the country receive school supplies or children's book each year through education-focused projects. Feed the Children's Teacher's Store program provides school supplies and resources to teachers, free of charge. Internationally, FEED serves in 10 countries, including El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Kenya, Nicaragua, Malawi, the Philippines, Tanzania, and Uganda, with the goal of helping communities break the cycle of poverty and gain self-sustainability. The organization reports developing sustainable long-term improvements in the quality of life for children and their families in poor or developing countries by addressing the issue of childhood hunger. FEED combines clean water and sanitation projects with health, food, nutrition and education programs and income-generating activities that strive to assist moving entire communities toward self-sufficiency. The organization provides for the well-being of at-risk, vulnerable and/or abandoned children through its facilities in Kenya and Honduras, including providing for food, security, medical care, provision for educational needs, social and rehabilitation services, and overall safety and security.
